I was recently introduced to the ‘twinnie’ concept by my grand niece. As I understand it, it is a special ‘thing’ she shares with her Mum, and something of a security back up that works when she is not with her Mum. So, when I spent some time with her recently, and was making crochet flowers at the time, we had a conversation about these flowers, and the creative things she was doing with pretty buttons, and coloured paper and so on, that we struck up an agreement! So she…

Waterlilies
I am fascinated by waterlilies. I am not sure if they are native to Australia, and in time I will walk down that meandering path with Dr Google, but in the meantime, here are some things that about them that intrigue me the way they provide shelter for pondfish, although my pond is way too small apparently, and all they do is send out lots of leaves, and never a flower! seeing them in one part of the Murray river where I walk, mad with blossoms, and providing a ‘walkway’…
Just a Bag Lady at Heart!
I love bags! In a tiny way, part of my life has been a search for the ‘perfect’ bag! Not gonna happen of course! Now I am more interested in creating lovely, handmade, eco-friendly, and unique bags for those who appreciate them! So when DD, a newly qualified Yogi, asked about carry bags for her yoga mats, I was very happy to put the creative juices to work! The gallery below has two bags, both 100% cotton, canvas on the outside, homespun on the inside. Both are 67 cm in…
Dressmaking and loving it!
It’s been a long time since I’ve done any dressmaking, even though I started sewing at the age of 10 and made my living out of it for quite a few years in my 20’s. But the age of throw-away fashion dawned when the kids were quite little, and I just couldn’t compete pricewise with cheap imports and a very limited budget. But recently DD (dear daughter) was so disappointed when an expensive little dress she had bought while travelling OS had shrunk to become, well, a top! I was…
Poppies for Remembrance
I was reminded of the 5000 Poppies Project, when I heard an interview with Lyn Berry, on Radio National recently. Textile artist, Lyn started this project in conjunction with a colleague, in 2013, and it grew like topsy. The target of 5000 poppies was well and truly exceeded when the project was sent over 270,000 poppies: most from Australia, but many from all over the world. Since then, the blooms have popped up in various installations from 2014 to 2018, with a view to commemorating the years of World War…
Yarn Bomb for Art Vault
Very happy to be working on this project, coinciding with Art Vault Print Triennial. Project started on October 30, in 30 plus heat, but great to be working in the shade (thanks to the tree!), and hope to complete project in the early morning cool of the next day! I have to admit this is my first tree project, and I am relishing the opportunity to employ some of my colourful samplers! This project was aimed at using up some of my acrylic yarns, as I mostly prefer to work…
Cosy Pooch Project
Just finished these colourful jumpers for two of my favourite pooches, my grand-dog, Monty, and his girly housemate, Stich. I haven’t monogrammed Stich’s yet, as I am not sure of the fit, it may be too small, so I will wait and see what her Dad says! Patterns are FREE from Ravelry.com, links are below. Barkley Dog Sweater

The wonder of textiles
When I was in primary school, polyester was new and rare in garments. Most of the stuff we wore was made of natural fibres, with all the care conditions that accompanied them. The manner of laundering was important because you could wreck something if you washed it wrong, and longevity was required and expected! Garments were made for growth and to be handed down to younger siblings. Most clothing was hand sewn, knitted, or made some other way. Mass produced items were for the better off, who could afford it. …
